What is the Sustainability Jam?

Like the Service Jam and Gov Jam, the Sustainability Jam seeks to give people the skills and tools they need to use Service Design under a Sustainable umbrella. Lots of fun and rapid prototyping, doing not talking and great food sums up the MCR SusJam.

Service Design?Never heard of it, what is it?

Service design is exactly what is sounds like: designing services.  Essentially, service design stems from the planning and organising of people, infrastructure, communication and material components of a service in order to create a seamless, and enjoyable, interaction between the service provider and its customers. This methodology focuses on the needs, motivations and behaviours of customers in order to tailor services which are user-friendly, competitive and relevant.

In a nutshell, the backbone of service design is to understand the behaviour of the customers, their needs and motivations. which may inform changes to an existing service or lead to the creation of new services.

Are there any requirements regarding  previous experience or a set of skills that I need to have in order to take part?

Absolutely NOT. You can come as a newbie or as a Service Design advocate – MCR SusJam is open to anybody and everybody.

Is this a ‘startup weekend’-like event?

It’s similar. You’ll come up with real life ideas that you may want to take forward and pursue as a business. Equally, you’re here to have fun, take part in a global event and embrace Service Design.

I just subscribed, how can I prepare myself for the event?

We’ll be sending out loads of information to help you prepare, however please don’t come with any preconceived ideas or solutions. We’d like everyone to start on the same page and with a blank slate.

Do I need to bring anything with me?

Any arts and crafts materials you might have lying around the house. Your laptop or tablet, some pens and a notepad.

A bottle of water might come in handy.

Is this a local event?

It’s the first time we’re hosting a Sustainable Jam in Manchester but it’s by not means local. The same event is happening all around the world at the same time, so you’ll be taking part in an international adventure.

What is the time-line for the weekend?

We’ll provide a detailed timeline nearer the event, but the brief outline is:

Friday 21st

Service Design Keynote

Group Setting

Beer o’clock!

Saturday 22nd

Discover

Define

Develop

Sunday 23rd

Deliver!

Party Time

What if I can’t attend for the whole time but I want to be part of it?

It’s no problem at all for you to come along for part of the time. As long as your group know you won’t be around. It really helps to be there on the Friday night for the Group Setting but otherwise your group can work around everyone’s availability.

How can I become a facilitator?

Send us an email to mcrjams@gmail.com and let us know your background and how you’d like to be involved. We’d be happy to have you on the MCR SusJam team!

A friend wants to come but there are no tickets left. Is there anything I can do about it?

Sure – contact us directly mcrjams@gmail.com and we’ll do what we can to fit everyone in.

Anyone and everyone. There’s no limit to the people who will attend, ranging from CEO’s to entrepreneurs, students, teachers and your everyday Joe.

Who’s organising the Manchester Sustainability Jam?

We have a great team of volunteers behind MCR SusJam. At the moment there are five of us: Katie Finney (amity) and Maria Mayor (amity), Vimla Appadoo (Blue Sky Digital Marketing), Minnie Yusaf (Hyper Island) and George Konsta (Telcom)

How can I get involved?
